The SIC appointed Kristin Varela as Chief Investment Officer to oversee all investment activities of the $71B sovereign wealth fund. Varela was previously CIO of the Employees' Retirement System of the State of Hawaii (~$26B) and earlier served in leadership roles, including Interim CIO, at New Mexico PERA. The CIO search was led by Dr. Ashby Monk (Stanford Research Initiative on Long-Term Investing) with executive search firm Fram Partners (founder Madison Gesser).
